I am a designer maker, I specialise in whittling and basketry. I work with both found and bought materials and a small selection of simple hand tools.
My current work consists of a range of spoons produced from wood that I split, shave and then whittle. The way a spoon is held or used is determined by its shape, sizes and angles. I have used my spoons to emphasize the relationship between the hand and spoon.
I have added a woven element to the spoons that hides or displays some of the features. The woven sections have developed from my passion for basketry. I have learnt traditional basketry techniques and have transferred these skills to cotton, producing delicate woven structures.
The cotton that I use is organic and dyed with natural materials. This is an important factor to me as I aim to reduce the environmental impact of my work.
